Atlantis Bahamas
79Today my family took off for Atlantis Bahamas. We've never been on an Atlantis Bahamas vacation before so this was a new and exciting trip for us. We had decided to go after we saw an ad on television for it, but had always had it in the back of our mind to go.
We got up early to fly out of Ft. Lauderdale airport (around 4:30 am) and caught our hotel shuttle to to get us there in time for our 8:10 am flight. As we knew we had plenty of time but at least we were rushed. Once on the plane, we were delayed maybe a half hour or so for a bit due to a thunderstorm that was passing through. It was a bumpy ride but we still made it into Nassau just fine.
There we caught a shuttle that the Atlantis hotel Bahamas had recommended called Dan Knowles. We had three options. A shuttle for about $66, a private car for a $100 bucks or so and a limo for over $200. We opted for the shuttle which we shared with another family and it worked out fine.
The Atlantis Resort Bahamas was about a thirty minute drive to the actual Coral Towers where we checked in. We were actually booked in the Beach Towers. Since we got in so early, are room wasn't ready and we had to store our bags with the bellman. I had a notebook computer which I was worried about and they had a lockbox to store it in so I felt alot better about that.
Our original plan was to swim if our room wasn't ready but we didn't really feel like getting all wet yet and it was only going to be another hour or so when the room was ready so we opted to explore the Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas a little bit instead. There also wasn't a really convenient place to change and keep some of the rest of the stuff we hadn't checked.
The resort is known for it's aquariums and after a few wrong turns in the lobby, we found four. The first was the Reef Lagoon which was a nurse shark breeding lagoon. After that we found the Estuary Lagoon which is a mangrove habitat and nursery for Atlantis juvenile sharks and rays.
The third was Water's Edge which is a cownose ray breeding sanctuary. It was amazing to see so many sting rays. The last was the Predator's Lagoon. I thought this was the coolest one, because it was built more like an aquarium. There were sharks and sawfish plus a couple of funny looking fish that were hamming it for the camera. They had huge mouths and just stared at all the people staring at them.
Once we finished that, we checked and the room was still not ready, so we decided to grab some lunch and had pizza at the Marina Pizzeria. All of the seating was outside and it was kind of hot and muggy so we took our pizza back to the lobby and there were some tables to eat at in there. It was a lot cooler and more relaxing to eat there.
We finished eating and discovered our room was ready, so we were ready to say that we were in the Atlantis Bahamas for real!

The Bahamas is great. I visited Nassau a few years ago and had a lot of fun. Love that picture - it is a scary looking fish! Would love to see more pictures :)
